COMPULSORY AGE OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE:  Maryland's compulsory age of school attendance will be rising to support student success.  Please refer to the following link for information.  Compulsory Age of Attendance

Wicomico County Public Schools will make two adjustments to the 2014-2015 school calendar to make up the school day lost on January 14 due to snowy and icy conditions.  Please note the following changes:
  • Tuesday, March 31:  This day will be an early dismissal day for students, with schools dismissing two hours early.
  • Tuesday, April 7:  This day will now be a regular school day for Wicomico students and staff.
Wicomico schools will be closed as planned April 1-6 for the spring holiday break.  With these changes, the school year will still end for students on Wednesday, June 10, as scheduled.

The school system is aware that some families may already have made plans for April 7 and that some students may not be able to attend that day.  Upon the student's return to school, a parent or guardian must provide a note stating the reason for the absence in order for the absence to be excused.  Students are allowed to make up work that they miss on an excused absence day.

Two draft calendars for the 2015-2016 school year are available for review and comment.  Please visit www.wcboe.org and click on "Calendar Input" for details and an online survey.  Calendar A would begin school on August 24 and end on June 6.  Calendar B would begin school on September 8 and end on June 20.

Very soon, many of our MMHS students will be taking the first round of the PARCC Assessments.  This new assessment will be given the first two weeks in March and then again in late April to all of our middle school students as well as our high school students enrolled in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and English 10.  For more information about the upcoming PARCC Assessments for students throughout Maryland:  http://www.msde.state.md.us/w/PTAGuide_MD_MDCCRS_042014.pdf

The Maryland State Department of Education is offering a series of Webinars for parents about the PARCC assessments.  All recorded webinars can be found using the following link:  PARCC Parent Webinars
